Polar Daybreak Inside the Arctic Circle ...
During polar nights, the daytime unveils a mesmerizing beauty, with a kaleidoscope of colors and a serene stillness that fully showcases the polar twilight.
So how is it during the polar nights? Does the sun never rise? Is it always dark ?
It’s absolutely fascinating to see & experience the polar nights. you might have heard that during this time, there is a never-ending night that lasts for a whopping 6 months. But let me tell you, that's just a myth!! The truth is, although the sun doesn't rise above the horizon for a couple of months, you do get to experience a few hours of a dusky daylight every day.
Now, don't get me wrong. It's not like basking in the sunshine and soaking up all its glory, but it's more like a magical twilight that casts a spell on you. The colors of the sky during this time are nothing short of spectacular! You can witness the most magnificent hues of pink, purple, and orange, all mixed in with clouds that will take your breath away.
It's an experience that captures your heart and soul, and you'll be left in awe of Mother Nature's beauty. So, if you ever get a chance to witness the polar nights, don't shy away from it. Embrace the magic of twilight and let the stunning colors of the sky fill your heart with joy and wonder!
Midnight Sun on the other end is equally spell bounding...more on that will be portrayed soon in another blog!
As you explore the frozen tundra, you'll also notice that the frozen waterfalls reveal a unique sight. You can often see water gushing beneath the ice, creating a mesmerizing and surreal experience. The sound of the water flowing under the ice adds a certain tranquility to the already stunning landscape.
The color of ice can often appear as a stunning shade of blue. This is because ice absorbs all colors of the visible spectrum except blue, which is reflected to our eyes.
Hoarfrost, the elusive and enchanting natural spectacle that could make even Elsa from Frozen jealous! We've been chatting about it on our Aurora blog and we're super excited to present to you some pictures of this winter wonderland in all its photogenic glory, during daylight hours.
This captivating natural phenomenon takes shape when atmospheric moisture foregoes the formation of water droplets and instead congeals as ice crystals, resembling exquisite floral ice formations. While it does not create slippery surfaces, walking on hoarfrost can be a delightful experience as one enjoys the satisfying crunch underfoot.
There’s nothing quite like going on a hike in the winter wonderland. It may seem daunting to venture out into the freezing cold and icy terrain, but believe me, it's worth every effort!
As you hike through the snow and ice, you'll witness a landscape that's both surreal and breathtaking. The frozen waterfalls, lakes, and snow-covered trees create a stunning backdrop that's hard to describe in words.
Throughout our trip, we were pleasantly surprised by the vegetarian food offered by people who primarily consume meat. we were so delighted to find a wide selection of delicious, organic, and fresh vegetarian options. Every meal was served was at a stunning location with breathtaking views, which had the unintended side effect of making us linger longer at the table and perhaps overindulge (maybe we got too caught up in the scenery!).
Lots of winter activities are lot of fun including but not limited to snow shoeing, skiing, dog sledding, Reindeer feeding & sledding, hiking, landscape photography, nighttime Aurora chasing…and the list goes on…you can choose one or two or all depending upon how adventurous you feel after/before a multi hour Aurora chase during the night.
Of course, you'll need to be prepared for the cold and icy conditions. Warm clothing, sturdy boots, and other necessary gear will make your hike a lot more comfortable and enjoyable. So, if you're up for an adventure, lace up your boots and hit the trails. You'll be rewarded with sights and experiences that will stay with you for a lifetime!
Staying in the wilderness, away from all the civilization gives you a different perspective of life for sure.
